Job Summary
The Children’s Museum Jordan is seeking a creative and technically skilled Architect to contribute to the design and development of interactive exhibits and educational environments. The role involves transforming educational concepts into engaging, safe, and child-friendly experiences through architectural design, technical drawings, 3D modelling, prototyping, and follow-up on fabrication and installation.
The Architect will also support the enhancement of existing exhibits and coordinate with relevant departments, contractors, suppliers, and fabricators to ensure that projects meet the Museum’s educational, technical, operational, quality, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the design and development of innovative interactive exhibits that transform educational concepts into engaging, hands-on learning experiences for children.
Prepare design concepts, sketches, mood boards, visual presentations, layouts, and design proposals for exhibits and related projects.
Develop 2D and 3D designs, architectural drawings, technical drawings, construction details, and other documentation required for fabrication and installation.
Develop prototypes, mock-ups, and proof-of-concept models, and participate in testing their functionality, safety, usability, and technical feasibility.
Select suitable materials, finishes, colours, and interactive elements to ensure quality, durability, safety, accessibility, and ease of maintenance.
Prepare technical specifications, Bills of Quantities (BoQs), scopes of work, and supporting documentation required for procurement, fabrication, and implementation.
Review shop drawings, material samples, and fabrication details submitted by contractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with approved designs and specifications.
Follow up on the fabrication and installation of exhibits and conduct the required site visits and technical inspections to ensure quality of implementation.
Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, fabricators, consultants, and service providers to ensure that work is completed according to approved technical requirements and timelines.
Collaborate with Education and Programs, Facilities and Maintenance, Visitor Experience, Marketing and Communications, Information Technology, and other relevant departments to integrate educational, operational, visual, and technical requirements into exhibit designs.
Contribute to the design of interpretive panels, signage, wayfinding elements, environmental graphics, seasonal decorations, temporary exhibitions, and visual displays for Museum events.
Conduct regular walkthroughs to assess the condition, safety, functionality, and overall presentation of exhibits and identify maintenance or improvement requirements.
Recommend design enhancements to existing exhibits to improve visitor engagement, educational effectiveness, safety, accessibility, and operational sustainability.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date design documentation, technical drawings, specifications, material schedules, modifications, and project records.
Research emerging technologies, materials, and international best practices in interactive exhibit design and educational environments.
Ensure compliance with the Museum’s quality standards, health and safety requirements, accessibility principles, policies, and procedures.
Perform any other job-related duties assigned by the direct manager that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from a recognized university.
Three to five years of relevant professional experience in architecture, interior design, exhibition or exhibit design, educational environments, experiential design, or a related field.
Practical experience in developing designs from the initial concept stage through technical documentation, fabrication, installation, and project completion.
Experience in preparing technical drawings, construction details, technical specifications, and Bills of Quantities.
Experience in coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and fabricators and following up on site implementation.
Proficiency in SketchUp and AutoCAD.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator, is an advantage.
Excellent command of Arabic and English, both written and spoken.
Applicants are preferably required to submit a portfolio demonstrating relevant projects and design work.
