Neptune Careers has been exclusively engaged by one of our clients, a leading technology company, to identify an experienced Engineering Lead to take ownership of engineering delivery for a newly established team.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused leadership role for someone who enjoys building strong engineering teams, shipping high-quality products, and exploring how AI can be practically integrated into both engineering workflows and products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a backend engineering team of approximately 3–7 engineers, setting priorities and ensuring strong execution.
- Own engineering delivery for the team, translating ambiguous requirements into structured, realistic plans and driving them through to completion.
- Coordinate technical milestones and dependencies across backend, mobile and frontend teams.
- Identify practical opportunities to incorporate AI into engineering workflows, including tooling and automation, as well as into the products and features being developed.
- Contribute to key architecture and technical design decisions in collaboration with senior engineering leadership.
- Review important technical decisions and ensure strong engineering practices across the team.
- Partner closely with Product to shape priorities, requirements and delivery plans.
- Establish high standards for code quality, testing, reliability and code reviews as part of the team's everyday engineering practices.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading technical teams, including direct mentoring of engineers.
- A strong track record of delivering and shipping software products successfully.
- Strong technical knowledge in at least one of the following:
- Java, Go, Python or .NET.
- Solid cloud experience with AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Strong understanding of the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate work across multiple technical teams.
- Ability to take ambiguous or complex problems and turn them into clear, structured execution plans.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to align Engineering, Product and key stakeholders.
- Genuine interest in AI and emerging technologies, with a desire to develop deeper expertise in this area.
- Hands-on experience with AI or LLMs would be a strong advantage.
Nice to Have
- Full-stack exposure using React or Vue, as well as Flutter.
- Experience building AI or LLM-powered features, products or internal tools.
- Site Reliability Engineering or infrastructure experience, including IaC, CI/CD and Kubernetes.
- Experience building or onboarding an engineering team from an early stage.
- Exposure to FinTech, EdTech or other environments where reliability and correctness are critical.
