As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality services and creating positive community impact, we are seeking a Community & Awareness Officer to support the AVTR Waste Management Program in Jordan.
Role Overview
The Community & Awareness Officer will support the Community & Awareness Manager in implementing the community engagement, public awareness, and sustainability education agenda of the AVTR Waste Management Program.
The role will be highly field-oriented and will involve regular engagement with residents, schools, universities, NGOs, community groups, and other local stakeholders. The Officer will help translate the community engagement strategy into practical field-level initiatives, identify behaviors that impact waste management operations, gather community feedback, and support targeted awareness and behavior-change interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Field Outreach
- Support the Community & Awareness Manager in implementing the annual community engagement and awareness plan.
- Conduct regular field visits across AVTR operational areas to engage with residents and local stakeholders.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, neighborhood representatives, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support community meetings, outreach programs, and engagement activities.
- Identify recurring community concerns, misconceptions, complaints, and behavioral challenges related to waste management.
- Gather community feedback and ensure relevant issues are documented and escalated to the Community & Awareness Manager and appropriate operational teams.
- Represent EFS professionally and positively during community interactions and public activities.
Behavior Change & Environmental Awareness
- Work closely with the Community & Awareness Manager and Operations teams to understand community behaviors affecting waste collection, segregation, disposal, recycling, and overall waste management performance.
- Support the development and implementation of targeted behavior-change interventions.
- Conduct door-to-door awareness activities where appropriate and required.
- Support awareness activities at identified waste management hotspots.
- Educate community members on responsible waste disposal, recycling, waste segregation, environmental protection, and sustainable practices.
- Distribute awareness and educational materials in coordination with the Community & Awareness team.
- Support initiatives designed to improve community participation and compliance with waste management practices.
Community Campaigns, Events & Outreach Programs
- Support the development and implementation of the annual community awareness calendar.
- Coordinate and support the field execution of community awareness campaigns and initiatives.
- Assist with school, university, NGO, CSR, and other community outreach programs.
- Support the planning and execution of workshops, awareness sessions, public engagement activities, and community events.
- Coordinate with volunteers, participants, and relevant stakeholders during community activities.
- Support the logistical arrangements required for community campaigns and events.
- Capture photographs, videos, field stories, and other relevant content for communication purposes in coordination with the Communications team.
Reporting, Monitoring & Documentation
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of community engagement activities, campaigns, participants, feedback, concerns, and outcomes.
- Prepare regular field activity reports and provide updates to the Community & Awareness Manager.
- Track relevant engagement and awareness metrics and support the monitoring of campaign effectiveness.
- Document recurring community concerns and support the identification of trends and areas requiring intervention.
- Assist the Community & Awareness Manager in preparing professional reports, presentations, dashboards, and PowerPoint slide decks.
- Ensure all community engagement activities and records are maintained in an organized and professional manner.
Internal Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Operations, Communications, Sustainability, and other relevant EFS teams to ensure community feedback is effectively addressed.
- Support the Community & Awareness Manager in communicating field-level observations and community concerns to the relevant stakeholders.
- Follow EFS policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and professional standards during all field activities.
- Perform other community engagement and awareness-related responsibilities assigned by the reporting manager.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Social Sciences, Marketing, Community Development, or a related discipline.
- 1–3 years of relevant professional experience in community engagement, public awareness, communications, sustainability, environmental programs, CSR, outreach, or a related field.
- Experience coordinating workshops, awareness sessions, school programs, NGO initiatives, community events, or public engagement activities will be an advantage.
- Good knowledge of environmental awareness, sustainability, waste management, recycling, and responsible waste disposal principles.
- Strong Arabic communication and writing skills with good command of English.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly across AVTR operational areas as required.
