Job Title - Country Director – Retail Business
Reports To Regional Director / CEO
Job Purpose
The Country Manager is responsible for leading and growing the retail business within the assigned country. This role has full accountability for the country's commercial performance, operational excellence, profitability, people development, and strategic expansion. The Country Manager ensures that all retail brands operate in line with corporate standards while delivering exceptional customer experience and achieving sustainable business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Business & Financial Management
• Own the country's Profit & Loss (P&L) and deliver agreed revenue and profitability targets.
• Develop and execute the annual business plan and budget.
• Drive sales growth, productivity, and market share across all retail brands.
• Monitor financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure effective cost control while maintaining operational excellence.
Retail Operations:
• Lead day-to-day operations across all stores.
• Ensure consistent execution of brand standards, visual merchandising, customer service, and operational procedures.
• Monitor KPIs including sales, conversion, average transaction value, units per transaction, productivity, shrinkage, and inventory accuracy.
• Ensure full compliance with company policies, health & safety regulations, and local legal requirements.
Commercial & Business Development:
• Develop strategies to maximize sales and profitability.
• Identify opportunities for new store openings, relocations, renovations, and closures.
• Build strong relationships with landlords and negotiate commercial terms for leases and renewals.
• Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer behavior to drive commercial decisions.
People Leadership:
• Recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing teams.
• Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and succession planning.
• Ensure effective workforce planning and talent development.
Inventory & Supply Chain:
• Optimize inventory levels to maximize sales while minimizing stock losses.
• Partner with merchandising and supply chain teams to improve stock availability and inventory turnover.
• Monitor stock allocation and seasonal product performance.
Customer Experience:
• Ensure outstanding customer service across all stores.
• Drive initiatives that improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.
• Monitor customer feedback and implement continuous improvement plans.
Stakeholder Management
• Act as the primary representative of the company within the country.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with landlords, government authorities, business partners, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with regional and head office teams including Finance, HR, Marketing, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Property, and IT.
Compliance & Governance
• Ensure full compliance with company policies, financial controls, and legal requirements.
• Protect company assets through effective risk management and internal controls.
• Lead business continuity and crisis management initiatives when required.
