Position: Community Volunteer / متطوع مجتمعي
Duty Station: Amman
Reports to: (Hierarchical and Technical) Community-Based Protection Team Leader
Status: Part Time.
Contract Duration: From 15/5/2026 till 31/12/2026 renewable based on performance and availability of funds
Paid volunteer role: 16 JOD per day, up to 8 days per month, and up to 7 hours per day (based on activity needs).
About INTERSOS:
INTERSOS is implementing a community-based protection project aimed at strengthening protection mechanisms and community engagement in targeted locations in Jordan. The project works with community structures, volunteers, partner CBOs/APDs, and local service providers to identify protection concerns, promote safe self-protection practices, strengthen community participation, and improve access to information and services.
Project activities include community dialogues, awareness-raising sessions, community action planning, follow-up on self-protection initiatives, and safe referrals through the CBP team-leader.

- Role Summary
The Community Volunteer will support the implementation of community-based protection activities in the assigned location. The volunteer will assist in organizing community meetings, dialogue sessions, awareness-raising activities, and follow-up on community action plans.
The volunteer will support practical and logistical aspects of CBP activities, encourage inclusive community participation, collect community feedback, and report any protection concerns safely to the CBP team-leader. The volunteer will not be responsible for case management, investigation, decision-making, or providing direct protection services.

- Main Responsibilities
A. Support Community Meetings and Dialogue Sessions
Support the organization of community meetings, protection strategy meetings, and dialogue sessions.
Assist with scheduling, venue arrangements, invitations, attendance follow-up, and participant coordination.
Support discussions related to protection risks, threats, vulnerabilities, capacities, and community concerns.
Encourage the participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, refugees, and host community members.
Support safe, respectful, and inclusive communication during community activities.

B. Support Community Action Plans and Self-Protection Activities
Support community structures in planning and following up on simple community-led self-protection activities.
Assist in identifying materials, tools, and logistical needs in coordination with the CBP team and logistics department.
Support awareness events, community dialogues, safe behavior campaigns, and other approved community initiatives.
Collect community feedback and share it with the CBP team.
Support the follow-up of action plans and document progress, challenges, and lessons learned.

C. Support Awareness and Outreach Activities
Support awareness-raising sessions on protection-related topics, as assigned and trained.
Share accurate and approved information with community members.
Help explain available services, referral pathways, and feedback/complaints mechanisms.
Support outreach to vulnerable and marginalized groups in a safe and respectful manner.

D. Referral and Protection Boundaries
Listen calmly if a community member shares a protection concern.
Refer any protection concern immediately to the CBP team-leader.
Avoid asking for detailed or sensitive information.
Do not investigate cases or make assessments.
Do not take photos, videos, or recordings of sensitive situations.
Do not promise any service, assistance, or outcome to community members.
Refer any official requests from authorities, media, or external actors to the supervisor.

Deliverables
Monthly activity report summarizing completed activities, key results, challenges, and planned activities for the following month.
Brief monthly monitoring note covering key issues observed, changes in the community, and any barriers faced.
Community action plan follow-up note documenting activities implemented, what worked well, what did not work, and community feedback.
Attendance sheets and basic activity documentation, where required.
Immediate reporting of urgent protection concerns or safeguarding issues to the supervisor.

Requirements and Selection Criteria
Arabic speaker.
Male and female candidates are encouraged to apply.
Minimum educational level: secondary school certificate or above.
Resident of, or familiar with, one of the targeted locations: Amman, Irbid, Mafraq, or Al-Karak.
Previous experience in protection, legal awareness, social work, community outreach, volunteering, or community engagement is highly desirable.
Legal background or experience in legal awareness is an asset.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to speak confidently and respectfully with community members and groups.
Ability to work with diverse groups, including refugees, host communities, women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
Basic reading and writing skills to complete simple forms, notes, and reports.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect sensitive information.
Commitment to humanitarian principles, Do No Harm, safeguarding, and PSEA standards.
Ability to work under the supervision of the CBP team and follow guidance.
Reliability, punctuality, and willingness to support activities based on project needs.

- Training and Support
The volunteers will receive basic training and ongoing support on the following topics:
Basic protection concepts, including risk, threat, vulnerability, and capacity.
Community-Based Protection approach.
Do No Harm principles.
Inclusion of women, youth, persons with disabilities, refugees, and host communities.
Safe community engagement.
Safeguarding and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
Confidentiality and safe referrals.
Feedback and complaints mechanisms.
Basic reporting and monitoring tools.

- Safeguarding and Confidentiality
The Community Volunteer must comply with INTERSOS Code of Conduct, safeguarding rules, confidentiality requirements, and PSEA standards.
The volunteer must not record names or identifying details of individuals sharing sensitive concerns. Any protection or safeguarding concern must be immediately referred to the supervisor or the CBP team-leader. The volunteer must maintain professional boundaries at all times and must not investigate, advise on complex protection cases, or promise assistance.

- Coordination and Reporting
The volunteer will report directly to the Community-Based Protection Team Leader and coordinate with the community structures, partner CBOs/APDs, and relevant local services, as guided by the supervisor.
