"This is to announce that Amman delegation has a vacancy for two Driver Light Vehicle at the Fleet unit in Amman, Jordan.
The Driver (Light Vehicle) to transports people and goods in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations and national traffic laws. Geographical remit: local to regional, depending on the type of work assignment.
GENERAL DUTIES
Be aware of the delegation’s objectives and activities
Understand the three components of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement
Apply the security rules always.
Respect and observe the staff regulations of the ICRC in Jordan.
The employee may be asked to perform other duties not covered in this job description as well as to provide support to other departments when and if necessary.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Drives light vehicles in strict adherence to internal security rules and national traffic laws; drives efficiency to minimize fuel consumption and use of materials.
Strict adherence to performing movements, trips, and schedules assigned related to light vehicles.
Constantly monitors the road security on the roads and reports back to the Dispatcher
Ensure that the goods are stored inside the vehicle according to local, international and ICRC safety standards (attachment and distribution of goods, use of pallets, etc.)
Checks their assigned vehicles equipment, general functioning and body condition and ensures that it is kept fuelled and clean inside and out. Checks that trips have been authorized where necessary.
Immediately reports accidents, defects and/or missing equipment to the Dispatcher
Can act as head of convoy as needed (in charge of the driver(s), application of security rules and time-frame for the convoy).
Has good local knowledge, assisting field staff in their job, and contributes, when requested, to sub-delegation security discussions
RELATIONSHIPS
Internally, interacts mainly with logistics staff and other ICRC employees.
Externally, interacts with people related to their work, e.g. traffic police, weapon bearers at checkpoints, fuel-station personnel, etc. May interact with beneficiaries on rare occasions.
MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Secondary school diploma (desirable)
Driver license level 5 or 6 held for at least 2 years
Knowledge (spoken and written) of English an asset
Ability to change a tyre and carry out other minor repairs (e.g. change light bulbs) on the road.
