BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The counselor will play a pivotal role in providing psychological support to children exposed to child protection concerns, as well as women and girls, boys and men facing risks associated with gender-based violence (GBV). The primary objective is to promote emotional well-being, resilience, and coping mechanisms in clients through comprehensive individual counseling services.
In addition to individual sessions, the Counselor will facilitate group counseling sessions designed to foster psycho-social support and personal development among participants. These sessions will address shared experiences and challenges, offering practical skills and strategies to enhance emotional resilience and interpersonal relationships.
Job Responsibilities
1. Individual Counseling Services:
- Deliver one-on-one counseling sessions to children and women boys and men facing risks related to child protection and GBV.
- Perform detailed psychological assessments to evaluate emotional, behavioral, and cognitive needs, as well as identify potential risks and protective factors.
- Develop personalized counseling plans tailored to the unique needs of each individual, ensuring the inclusion of clear, measurable goals.
- Utilize evidence-based therapeutic methods, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, trauma-focused interventions, or mindfulness techniques, to address issues such as trauma, stress, anxiety, and self-esteem challenges.
- Provide consistent follow-up to monitor clients’ progress and modify intervention strategies as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Maintain comprehensive, secure, and confidential records for each session, adhering to ethical and organizational guidelines.
2. Group Counseling Sessions:
- Plan, organize, and conduct structured group counseling sessions to support children and women with shared experiences and needs.
- Create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive atmosphere where participants feel empowered to express themselves.
- Focus on specific topics such as coping mechanisms, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, self-confidence building, and forming healthy relationships.
- Incorporate engaging, interactive methods such as art therapy, storytelling, role-playing, or group discussions to ensure participation and relatability.
- Collect feedback from participants and assess the impact of the group sessions to refine future programming.
3. Case Coordination and Referrals:
- Work closely with child protection CM , protection team, and GBV CM to provide integrated support to cases .
- Contribute to interdisciplinary case review meetings, offering psychological insights and recommendations to enhance intervention strategies.
4. Monitoring and Reporting:
- Maintain meticulous records of all counseling activities, including session notes, progress reports, and data on outcomes.
- Compile and submit regular reports that analyze individual and group counseling results, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.
- Participate in program evaluations and provide input to enhance the quality and effectiveness of interventions.
5. Professional Development and Ethics:
- Stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and innovative methods in child counseling, trauma care, and GBV support.
- Uphold the highest standards of professional ethics, including maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating respect for clients’ cultural and personal values.
- Actively participate in supervision sessions, peer debriefings, and relevant training opportunities to continually enhance professional competencies.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or a related discipline
- Minimum of three years of experience delivering counseling services to children and women in contexts related to child protection and GBV.
- Proficiency in trauma-informed approaches, child-friendly counseling techniques, and therapeutic methodologies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish trust and build rapport with diverse client populations.
- Familiarity with international child protection and GBV frameworks, including safeguarding policies and practices.
- Ability to manage a high caseload effectively while maintaining high standards of care.
Language Requirement
- Fluency in Arabic and good skills in English
