We are hiring an experienced Shipping & Chartering Manager to establish and lead the Chartering function at Cali Agricultural & Fertilizers Trading operating under Musallam Group, with a strong focus on vessel chartering, freight negotiations, and developing relationships with shipowners and shipbrokers across the Mediterranean and North Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and develop the company’s Chartering function and network.
- Lead vessel sourcing, negotiation, and vessel fixing for the company’s shipping requirements.
- Manage the full chartering cycle from freight assessment and vessel sourcing through fixture, nomination, voyage execution, and final settlement.
- Build and maintain strong regional relationships with shipbrokers, shipowners, operators, and agents, particularly across the Mediterranean and North Africa.
- Negotiate freight rates and Charter Party terms, including laycan, laytime, demurrage/dispatch, and other commercial terms.
- Handle voyage charters, contracts of affreightment (COA), time charters, and part cargoes.
- Prepare freight estimates and voyage calculations and support commercial decisions for FOB, CFR, and CIF transactions.
- Coordinate vessel nominations, loading, discharge, port agents, terminals, and other relevant parties.
- Monitor freight markets, vessel availability, routing options, and regional shipping developments.
- Manage post-fixture activities, including voyage performance, shipping documentation, laytime, and demurrage claims.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in ship chartering, shipbroking, commodity trading, or shipping operations, including solid hands-on chartering experience.
- Proven experience in vessel fixing and freight negotiations.
- Strong existing network with shipbrokers, shipowners, and operators; regional connections are highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Charter Parties, voyage calculations, laytime, demurrage, and freight markets.
- Experience with dry bulk vessels, particularly Handysize to Supramax; tanker or gas carrier experience is an advantage.
- Good understanding of vessel types, ports, international trade routes, and Incoterms.
- Experience in the Mediterranean and North African shipping markets is highly preferred.
- Strong commercial judgment, negotiation, communication, and relationship-management skills.
- Professional written and spoken English.
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
