Job Title: Senior Accountant
Scope of Work
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and controlling all accounting functions, including financial transactions, payroll, taxation, inventory accounting, cost accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit coordination. The role ensures compliance with applicable regulations, supports operational efficiency, and provides accurate financial information to support management decision-making and business performance.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
1. Financial Operations and Receivables/Payables Management
- Review all financial transactions and ensure the completeness of supporting documentation and accuracy of data prior to approval.
- Prepare and record receipts, payments, and journal vouchers in the accounting system with proper supporting documents attached.
- Issue cheques and process payments while ensuring timely execution.
- Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable, including collection follow-up, account reconciliations, and settlement of supplier and consultant payments.
- Monitor and reconcile employee receivable and payable balances on a regular basis.
- Follow up on receivable collections from international markets and manage foreign currency transactions in accordance with approved financial policies.
2. Payroll, Statutory Compliance, and Tax Administration
- Prepare monthly payroll, record payroll entries in the accounting system, and ensure timely salary transfers to employees.
- Monitor payroll-related income tax deductions and prepare related payment orders.
- Manage all Social Security procedures, including employee registration, updates, and terminations, and prepare monthly statements and payment orders.
- Prepare and submit Sales Tax (VAT) returns through the electronic filing system and ensure timely payment.
- Coordinate with the tax consultant and ensure compliance with all legal, tax, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate financial reporting requirements specific to non-profit entities and ensure adherence to their financial policies.
3. Inventory Management and Accounting Integration
- Review and verify all warehouse transactions, including receipts, issues, transfers, and returns, and ensure proper linkage to financial accounts.
- Record inventory-related journal entries in the accounting system and investigate inventory variances resulting from stock counts.
- Monitor inventory through periodic stock counts, site visits, and sample checks to verify the accuracy of inventory records.
- Support warehouse organization and preparation for stock-taking activities while assisting in resolving inventory discrepancies.
- Monitor slow-moving and obsolete handcrafted inventory and prepare periodic reports with recommendations for clearance or redeployment.
4. Cost Accounting and Production Analysis
- Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and production costing methodologies.
- Calculate direct and indirect production costs, including manufacturing overhead.
- Analyze unit costs and monitor raw material consumption.
- Analyze variances between actual and standard/estimated costs and recommend improvement actions.
- Calculate the cost of handcrafted products, tracking artisan labor costs separately from standard industrial costs to ensure accurate pricing and product profitability analysis.
5. Financial Closing and Audit Support
- Prepare and review trial balances and process necessary adjusting entries.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and cash reconciliations.
- Prepare balance confirmations for receivables, payables, banks, cash, and employee balances.
- Calculate and record provisions, including depreciation, slow-moving inventory provisions, and accrued expenses.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documents and coordinate with external auditors and relevant stakeholders, including banks, legal advisors, and tax consultants.
6. Financial Reporting and Planning
- Prepare periodic financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual) and analyze financial performance.
- Prepare financial and management reports as requested by management.
- Develop the annual budget, including sales, production, payroll, and departmental budgets, with supporting assumptions.
- Prepare and monitor cash flow statements on a regular basis.
- Prepare collection profitability analyses by product group or design range to support pricing decisions, production planning, and product strategy.
7. Special Transactions and Process Improvement
- Monitor consignment inventory transactions and coordinate with relevant departments to ensure invoicing and collection of receivables.
- Prepare and update analytical reports, including sales and operational performance reports.
- Enhance accounting and internal control procedures to improve operational efficiency, strengthen controls, and reduce errors.
8. Grant Management and Institutional Reporting
- Monitor and prepare financial reports required by donors and funding partners, ensuring full compliance with grant conditions and reporting schedules.
- Prepare periodic financial reports for the Board and senior management.
9. Export Operations and International Sales Support
- Manage the financial aspects of export invoicing, shipping documentation, and customs clearance, ensuring accurate recording in the accounting system.
- Coordinate with international clients on payment terms and foreign currency collection mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with Jordanian sales tax regulations on exports and liaise with the relevant tax authorities as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
1. Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or Finance from an accredited university
- A recognized professional certification such as JCPA, ACCA, or CMA is a strong advantage.
2. Professional Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including at least 3 years in a senior accountant role or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing, production, or similar industrial environment.
- Solid knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Jordanian tax and labor regulations.
3. Technical Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in accounting and ERP systems; experience with Odoo, Oracle, or SAP is preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and financial modeling.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and present actionable recommendations.
- Fluency in Arabic (written and spoken) and a working proficiency in English.
