Job Summary:
The University Counselling Department provides dedicated counselling focused on successful university applications, student development, academic advising, and career planning. This role supports students in grade9 & 10 to navigate their academic paths, explore career options, and make informed decisions about their educational journey. this role supports counsellors with administrative tasks and coordination and scheduling of events, workshops, travel, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a counselling curriculum for grades 9 & 10, including one-on-one meetings, personal plans, workshops, and assistance with course selection and career exploration and planning.
- Work with Grade 12 UK Foundation year students and students applying in Jordan.
- Maintain databases for and facilitate information on summer programs, competitions, and internships.
- Develop relationships with companies and organizations in Amman who are willing to offer internship programs to grade 10 and 11 students.
- Collaborate with teachers and other AA staff to support students, follow up with the MYP office regarding academic concerns.
- Stay informed about academic programs, internship opportunities, and trends to provide accurate and relevant advice.
- Manage and maintain the organization of the UCD office, supplies, resources, documentation, and server.
- Coordinate logistics for all UCD events, including major events like Career Week, Senior Advice Session, UCD workshops and fall and spring university fair seasons.
- Maintain all documentation for students from grades 9-12, including student lists, timetables, four-year transcripts, mid and final-year updates, passports, etc.
- Annual calculation of tiers and ranking system for reporting and bonus calculation.
- Update and maintain UCD and Outlook calendars, and arrange for meetings with other staff/departments in the school
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent command of the English language, including essay writing and editing, including professional writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population, parents, and other AA staff.
- Excellent organization skills, including keeping track of student documents, databases, and follow-up plans with the ability to manage office logistics and strategically organize physical and digital documentation.
- The ability to liaison with community organizations, companies, and parents.
- Commitment to supporting students’ academic and professional growth.
- Commitment to a position that requires life-long learning, continued professional development and proactivity in advancing the work of the department and to requires proactivity, effective time management, multi-tasking, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of academic program requirements and career development processes is a plus.
- A bachelor or post graduate degree in Counselling, Education, Career Development, administration, management, customer services or a related field is a plus.
- Relevant experience in academic advising or career counselling is a plus.
