Job Purpose
The Superintendent – Planning & Reliability is responsible for leading and coordinating planning, operational reliability, and performance improvement activities across the terminal. The role ensures that operational resources, equipment, manpower, and workflows are effectively planned and utilized to achieve safe, efficient, and reliable terminal operations.
The position will work closely with Operations, Engineering & Maintenance, Commercial, HSSE, and other relevant functions to identify operational constraints, improve equipment and process reliability, and support the achievement of terminal productivity and service-level targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage short-, medium-, and long-term operational planning activities in line with terminal requirements and business objectives.
- Coordinate daily and weekly operational plans, ensuring alignment between vessel operations, yard activities, gate operations, equipment availability, and manpower.
- Monitor terminal performance, productivity, equipment utilization, downtime, and operational reliability indicators.
- Identify operational bottlenecks, recurring issues, and capacity constraints and develop improvement plans.
- Work closely with Engineering & Maintenance teams to ensure equipment availability and reliability support operational requirements.
- Analyze equipment and operational performance data to identify trends, recurring failures, and opportunities for improvement.
- Establish and monitor KPIs related to planning accuracy, equipment availability, productivity, utilization, downtime, and operational efficiency.
- Support root-cause analysis of operational and equipment-related disruptions and ensure appropriate corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Coordinate contingency and recovery plans during operational disruptions, equipment breakdowns, vessel delays, or unexpected changes in demand.
- Optimize the allocation and utilization of terminal resources, including quay cranes, RTGs, terminal tractors, manpower, and other operational assets.
- Support forecasting of operational demand, resource requirements, and terminal capacity.
- Prepare regular operational performance reports and management dashboards, highlighting key trends, risks, issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to improve planning processes, data quality, operational visibility, and decision-making.
- Participate in continuous improvement and digitalization initiatives related to terminal planning, reliability, and performance management.
- Ensure planning and operational activities comply with company policies, HSSE requirements, and applicable port regulations.
- Provide guidance and support to planning and operations teams and promote a culture of reliability, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in container terminal, port operations, logistics, heavy industrial, or asset-intensive environments.
- Typically 8–12+ years of relevant experience, with proven experience in planning, operations, reliability, or performance management.
- Experience working with terminal operating systems (TOS) and operational planning tools is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of port/terminal operations, equipment utilization, resource planning, and operational performance.
- Experience with data analysis, KPI reporting, and performance dashboards.
- Knowledge of reliability principles, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good command of English; Arabic is an advantage.
