Head of Accounts / Chief Accountant
Location: Amman, Jordan
Reports to: CFO
Role Type: Full-time, On-site
Role Purpose
The Head of Accounts is responsible for owning the integrity, discipline, and timeliness of the company’s financial records, ensuring clean month-end closes, audit readiness, and reliable data to support management, actuarial analysis, and Board oversight.
This role is a control anchor in the finance function.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Reporting
- Own the monthly close process, including reconciliations of:
- claims (paid & outstanding),
- receivables,
- payables,
- technical reserves.
- Prepare monthly:
- P&L,
- balance sheet,
- cash flow,
- budget vs actual analysis.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy across GL, claims systems, and actuarial data.
IFRS 17 & Actuarial Interface
- Coordinate IFRS 17 financial reporting inputs in collaboration with:
- actuarial advisors,
- underwriting,
- medical insurance teams.
- Ensure reconciliation between:
- actuarial outputs,
- claims data,
- financial statements.
Audit & Governance Support
- Act as primary audit counterpart for:
- external auditors,
- internal audit,
- regulatory reviews.
- Maintain complete and well-documented audit trails.
- Support Audit Committee and Board reporting cycles.
Data & Systems
- Work closely with IT and BI teams to ensure:
- clean financial data feeds,
- reliable Power BI dashboards,
- timely resolution of data discrepancies.
- Ensure finance requirements are prioritized in system enhancements.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and develop the accounting team.
- Enforce process discipline, deadlines, and documentation standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 8–10 years’ experience in the Jordanian insurance sector.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- IFRS 17,
- insurance claims accounting,
- actuarial-financial reconciliation.
- CMA / CPA preferred.
- Calm, structured, detail-oriented — low ego, high reliability.
