As a Software Engineer L4, you are a senior technical contributor who drives complex initiatives across multiple teams. You influence architecture and technical direction within key areas of the platform while remaining hands-on with design and implementation.
You operate beyond individual features but remain closely connected to execution, stepping in to solve the most challenging technical problems and helping teams deliver scalable, maintainable solutions.

The Job - Software Engineer L4:
What you'll be doing:
Architecture & Technical Leadership:
- Influence and contribute to architectural decisions across multiple systems and teams.
- Design scalable, reliable solutions for complex business and technical problems.
- Drive cross-team technical initiatives that improve performance, reliability, and developer experience.
Execution & Delivery:
- Remain hands-on with system design, complex implementations, and technical problem-solving.
- Lead the technical delivery of large, high-impact projects involving multiple teams.
- Build prototypes and validate technical approaches to reduce risk and support informed decision-making.
Collaboration & Influence:
- Work closely with engineering, product, and leadership to influence technical priorities and align solutions with business needs.
- Break down ambiguous and complex business problems into clear, actionable technical plans.
- Facilitate collaboration between teams and support architectural alignment across initiatives.
Quality & Sustainability:
- Identify technical debt and lead initiatives to improve long-term system maintainability.
- Promote best practices in testing, observability, performance, and security.
- Support improvements to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and operational reliability.
Mentorship & Engineering Excellence:
- Mentor Senior Engineers (L3s) and support their growth as technical leaders within teams.
- Raise engineering standards through code reviews, design feedback, and technical guidance.
- Advocate for pragmatic long-term improvements while balancing short-term delivery needs.
Your focus: Driving technical excellence across multiple teams, influencing architecture within key areas of the platform, mentoring senior engineers, ensuring system quality and sustainability, and delivering high-impact solutions that support ZenHR’s growth.
Who are you:
You are a seasoned engineer who thinks holistically across systems, teams, and timelines. You are recognized as a trusted technical authority and are comfortable leading through influence, not authority.
You have:
- 7+ years of experience building and scaling production systems.
- Proven experience driving cross-team architectural initiatives.
- Deep expertise in backend and frontend technologies, ideally including JavaScript, PostgreSQL, and modern frameworks.
- Experience designing reliable distributed systems and scalable architectures.
- Strong understanding of performance, security, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
- Demonstrated success mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions at scale.
- Excellent communication skills, able to simplify the complex and guide diverse stakeholders.
- A mindset of ownership, foresight, and long-term thinking.
