The Infrastructure and Data Center Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining IT infrastructure and data center environments. The role requires expertise in virtual servers, network systems, storage solutions, and cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate should have foundational knowledge in networking and security while focusing primarily on infrastructure and data center operations. This includes managing both physical and virtual systems, ensuring high availability and performance, and supporting business operations with robust and scalable infrastructure solutions.
Requirements
- Infrastructure and Data Center Management:
- Design, deploy, and maintain IT infrastructure solutions, including servers, storage, and network systems, both on-premises and in the cloud
- Manage and optimize data center environments, ensuring efficient operation of servers, storage devices, and network components
- Monitor data center environmental conditions (power, cooling, and physical security) to ensure system uptime and reliability
- Virtualization and Cloud Management:
- Manage virtual server environments using platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or similar technologies
- Administer cloud infrastructure services, including virtual machines, storage, and networking on platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Implement and manage hybrid cloud solutions, integrating on-premises and cloud resources to meet business needs
- Unified Communications and Collaboration (CUCM):
- Deploy, configure, and manage Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) to support enterprise communication needs
- Troubleshoot VoIP systems, call routing, and integration with other collaboration tools
- Ensure high availability and security of communication systems, implementing best practices for call quality and redundancy
- Network and Security Fundamentals:
- Apply basic knowledge of networking concepts and security principles to support the infrastructure environment
- Assist in configuring and troubleshooting network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls
- Implement security best practices for infrastructure and data center environments, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and industry standards
- System Administration and Maintenance:
- Perform installation, configuration, and maintenance of physical and virtual servers, network systems, and storage solutions
- Conduct regular updates, patches, and backups to maintain system integrity and security
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to hardware, software, and network components
- Load Balancer and Firewall Administration:
- Configure, manage, and optimize load balancers (e.g., F5, Citrix ADC) to ensure traffic distribution and application availability
- Implement, monitor, and maintain firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA) to enforce security policies and protect against cyber threats
- Analyze traffic patterns, detect anomalies, and mitigate risks related to network security and application performance
- Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure business continuity in case of system failures or outages
- Conduct regular backup and recovery tests to validate the effectiveness of disaster recovery plans and update them as necessary
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for infrastructure configurations, data center layouts, and standard operating procedures
- Provide regular reports on infrastructure performance, data center operations, and security status to management
- Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with IT teams and other departments to support infrastructure and data center needs
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for infrastructure and data center-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure and data center engineering
- Strong knowledge of networking, security, Linux, and Windows-based systems
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Expertise in CUCM, load balancers, and firewall management
Certifications (Preferred):
- Infrastructure and Cloud Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (MCAE)
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or Google Cloud Associate Engineer
- Data Center Certifications:
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Data Center or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Data Center
- Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP) or Certified Data Center Expert (CDCE)
Skills:
- Proficiency in managing and troubleshooting virtual servers, storage solutions, and network systems
- Expertise in Linux administration, including scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash)
- Strong understanding of data center infrastructure components, including power, cooling, and physical security
- Advanced knowledge of networking protocols, security principles, and firewall/load balancer configurations
- Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for infrastructure management
- Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to create clear and comprehensive technical documentation
