Role Overview
The Ecommerce Technology Manager will be the strategic and operational leader of the company’s ecommerce technology stack. Acting as the chief architect and technology owner of the digital platform, this role bridges business, product, and IT. The manager will ensure that the ecommerce platform delivers scalability, innovation, reliability, and customer-centric performance aligned with the retailer’s growth ambitions. This role is ideal for a technology leader with CTO-level capabilities, passionate about building world-class digital platforms and leading cross-functional
technology initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute the ecommerce technology roadmap in alignment with business and customer experience goals.
- Act as the technology owner for the ecommerce platform (web, mobile, marketplace integrations, and omnichannel touchpoints).
- Partner with the Ecommerce Director on strategic decisions involving digital commerce, customer experience, and platform expansion.
Technology & Architecture
- Lead platform architecture, system integrations (ERP, OMS, CRM, PIM, payments, logistics, loyalty, and marketplace APIs), and scalability initiatives.
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize ecommerce solutions (cloud hosting, microservices, headless commerce, AI-driven personalization, search & merchandising engines, etc.).
- Ensure cybersecurity, compliance, and data privacy standards across all digital
- platforms.
Execution & Operations
- Manage cross-functional technology delivery across internal IT teams, third-party vendors, and solution providers.
- Own incident management, system reliability, uptime, and performance KPIs for ecommerce.
- Oversee deployment cycles, testing frameworks, and release management for new features and platform enhancements.
Innovation & Growth Enablement
- Drive digital innovation by piloting new technologies (AI, AR/VR shopping, conversational commerce, data-driven personalization).
- Support marketplace and omnichannel initiatives (e.g., fulfillment technology, digital payments, last-mile integrations).
- Translate business needs into scalable, automated solutions that enable rapid growth and exceptional customer experiences.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead a team of developers, solution architects, service desk, and technology vendors.
- Act as the key liaison between business leadership and IT, ensuring smooth alignment and prioritization.
- Build strong relationships with product, marketing, operations, and supply chain stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in ecommerce technology management, architecture, or digital platforms (retail or marketplace strongly preferred).
- Proven track record of leading end-to-end digital platforms (Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, SAP Hybris, Shopify Plus, or custom headless solutions).
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), APIs, microservices, DevOps, and data-driven personalization.
- Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional technology delivery teams and vendors.
- Experience in cybersecurity, payments, fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
